History of the National Guard

We serve the President and the homeland with faith and truth!

The National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan is an independent special military unit and is directly subordinate to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan - the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan and performs important state functions.
This influential military unit was created in January 1995 on the basis of the Rapid Reaction Brigade (military unit 3571) and until 2004 served as the Presidential Guard. On January 26, 2004, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Presidential Guard was transformed into the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan.
From the first years of independence, officers and soldiers of the guard, along with other military personnel of law enforcement agencies, have made a significant contribution to the restoration of the constitutional order, security and strengthening of the state independence of Tajikistan. From the first days of its existence, the personnel of the Guard won the trust, and at the decisive moments of the country's victory over illegal armed groups on the battlefield, they earned the trust of the President and the country's leadership.
The highest state awards were awarded to 302 people, 79 of whom were posthumous. As the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in his speeches constantly emphasizes: "The state, authorities and people of Tajikistan will never forget the dedication and courage of the officers and soldiers of our Motherland, who sacrificed their lives to defend the peaceful life of the people of our country."
The National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan operates on the basis of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan" dated July 15, 2004 No. 50, and its main functions are determined by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Protection of especially important state facilities, participation in the ceremonies of meeting and seeing off the heads of state and government, ensuring the safety of officials during celebrations, protecting the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Tajikistan are the main tasks of the National Guard. Also, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Guard takes part in activities related to maintaining public order and security, combating terrorism and other activities, and also assists the military and law enforcement agencies in the performance of their duties.
For 26 years of fruitful activity, the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan with the help and constant support of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has gradually improved from a military unit into a powerful security agency. Currently, units of the National Guard operate in almost all regions of the country, and its personnel serve faithfully, performing their official duties.
On the basis of changes and additions made to the structure of the National Guard in January 2004, military units were gradually replenished, the provision of personnel with modern weapons, equipment, as well as financial and material support of servicemen improved. Also, creative work has been intensified in all military units of the guard. In particular, educational buildings, dormitories and canteens for soldiers, training grounds, checkpoints and other premises necessary for service, as well as additional buildings and structures were rebuilt.
The staff was replenished with professional officers, experienced and qualified specialists with a high level of qualifications. In 2005, the personnel of the Guard of Honor company of the National Guard for the first time demonstrated special military shows and solemnly took the oath before the head of state, concluding it with the following words: "We faithfully serve the President, the Motherland and the great Tajik people." From that day on, this slogan became the motto of all personnel and resounds in the hearts of the National Guard at all solemn and official moments.
One of the most important activities of the National Guard is the training of highly qualified and capable personnel. Replenishment of the ranks of the National Guard is carried out at the expense of graduates of military educational institutions of the country and abroad, cooperating with the Republic of Tajikistan. At the same time, the National Guard, in its training center, has the opportunity to train young specialists, warrant officers and young officers to continue serving in the guard units.
Every year, the center graduates dozens of military specialists, including snipers, signalmen, shooters of various weapons, mechanics - drivers and commanders of crews on armored vehicles. Graduates of these courses, selected from the best military personnel, in the future will be sent to the higher military institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan and abroad to improve their military knowledge and skills. It is obvious that in the future they will play an important role in ensuring the security and defense capability of the country as a resource for the military.
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan constantly cares and takes the necessary measures to maintain a high level of combat readiness, improve the material and technical condition and further improve the social status of officers and soldiers. The National Center for Combating Terrorism and Narcotics was built and put into operation to increase the combat capability of servicemen. The area of the center is 110 hectares and consists of modern equipment for firing various weapons, a tank training center, multi-storey buildings and models of settlements for special exercises. The center is suitable for holding military exercises and large-scale military competitions with the participation of a large number of military personnel. Currently, this center is also training servicemen of other law enforcement agencies in the country.
In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan", one of the main tasks of the guard is to protect the State Flag of the Republic of Tajikistan and the State Emblem of the Republic of Tajikistan. This honorable duty is performed by the National Guard Honor Guard Battalion.
On November 18, 2006, a new page was opened in the history of independent Tajikistan. At the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, which was held for the first time in accordance with all legal and historical norms, it was an honor to present the state symbols of Tajikistan, including the State Flag of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan. This great honor has been honored with pride and dedication by the Commander and the soldiers of the National Guard.
On September 3, 2010, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in the ceremony of awarding the "Battle Banner" of the National Guard. The oath of allegiance to the President, the Motherland and the great Tajik people was taken with military pomp and splendor. From this happy moment, the personnel of the Guard doubles, with a firm will, perseverance, to strengthen state independence, the unity of the beloved Motherland, for the exemplary performance of military and official duties, which is the sacred duty of every patriot.
It was at this solemn event that the personnel of the Guard of Honor held special screenings for the first time in a new uniform, decorated with distinctive national patterns and symbols that personify the features of the Tajik army and statehood from the history of our ancestors.
Since 2010, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On Holidays", September 3 is the Day of the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan pays special attention to women and their position in the National Army. In particular, in the field of providing soldiers with food and clothing, hygiene and health of servicemen. We can say that this initiative of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief has been fully implemented in the National Guard. Women in the military make valuable contributions to the National Guard. Their activities in the field of educational work, office work, training of human resources, medical services, communications, logistic support are very significant.
Some of them are in leadership positions. It should be noted that in 2010, for the first time in the history of independent Tajikistan, female guardsmen, as part of a group of 53 people (one box), took part in a military parade on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the National Guard. The presence of women at this military parade increased the splendor of the assembly and was very well received by the head of state as a sign of devotion and sincerity to the Motherland. Since then, the participation of women in military parades has become a tradition.
On August 30, 2011, the personnel of the Guard of Honor battalion of the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan took part in the ceremony of raising the State Flag of the Republic of Tajikistan to a height of 165 meters. On the eve of preparations for the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan's state independence, on the initiative and with the direct participation of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, the Tajik flag is raised in all cities and regions of the country as a symbol of independence. A battalion of the National Guard Guard of Honor constantly takes part in the ceremonies. At these ceremonies, the National Guard military band accompanies the members of the Guard of Honor battalion.
It is clear that the position of each military unit is determined by the level of combat readiness, provision of weapons and equipment, discipline and professionalism of the personnel. The National Guard, in addition to field exercises, various military events and exercises held in the guard, annually with other internal and external military structures of the country in the field of tactical exercises, take an active part in the fight against international terrorism and extremism and increase their military potential and knowledge.
In particular, the personnel of the National Guard are actively participating in large-scale military exercises, which are being conducted jointly with the Collective Rapid Reaction Force of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The creation of favorable conditions for life and service, that is, a constant increase in the social status of servicemen, has always been in the center of the President's attention. For 25 years of work, 475 families of the National Guard servicemen have been provided with housing, 65 families - with land plots for housing.
Service in the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan is an honorary service. Here young people are taught to serve in the army decisively. Most of them, having completed two years of compulsory military service, are brought up in the spirit of courage, love for the Motherland and loyalty to the President of the great Tajik people and continue to serve in this prestigious military structure.
Units of the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan, consisting of units for various purposes, perform important official duties. Also, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan - the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, together with other military structures of the country, they carry out separate tasks to protect the independence and integrity of the Republic of Tajikistan.
